TSU delegates, Mr. Romer Madrid and Asst. Prof. Maria Fermina Joyce C. Nucum, a student and faculty member from the Department of Communication under the College of Arts and Social Sciences, participated in the recently concluded 34th edition of Virtual COMMTech Nusantara 2024: Wonderful Folk Tales Indonesia, held via Zoom from June 24 to July 5, 2024. The event highlighted their efforts to strengthen student-teacher academic mobility.
The event aimed to explore the culture, traditions, historical heritage, and shared identities that strengthen connections and cultural understanding through folk tales among universities worldwide. This event demonstrated the commitment of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) to building relationships with various universities across the country, offering insights into its practices and involvement in research and technology.
At the same time, students from various universities around the world collaborated in a two-week program to explore Indonesia's culture and traditions, participating in virtual activities and deepening their knowledge about the country. Students had the opportunity to learn Fun Bahasa, take historical tours of Surabaya, uncover captivating folk tales, and engage in meaningful discussions.
The program also promoted a holistic understanding of cultures, encouraging participants to embrace their own identities and develop cultural perspectives through social knowledge and skills. It provided an avenue for students to engage in meaningful discussions through creative posters that depicted their experiences during the two-week Nusantara program. Participants from different backgrounds, cultures, traditions, and identities came together, strengthening connections and cultural understanding.
Mr. Romer Madrid, a representative of Tarlac State University and a student of the Department of Communication, centered his discussion around his poster, which explained his journey. He stated, "We are here for one goal: to communicate, demonstrate mutual respect, and engage in positive intercultural behavior. We embrace the rich culture of Indonesia and foster diverse cross-cultural understanding, cultivating cultural perspectives through social knowledge and skills."
On the last day of the program, Mr. Ezra conveyed his message, urging participants to use the lessons learned and incorporate their experiences into their future endeavors.
The 34th edition of Virtual COMMTech Nusantara 2024: Wonderful Folk Tales Indonesia concluded with a photo opportunity, the awarding of winners, and special recognitions.
