Tarlac State University and the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) signed a memorandum of agreement today (May 14) at the DENR Provincial Office to establish a collaborative partnership in improving environmental research and sustainability activities.
Part of the long-term collaboration is a six-month research project with funding from PENRO stipulated in the MOA. This is the first research endeavor of TSU this year granted with external funding.
Office of University Research Development Dr. Robert V. Marcos, research project team leader, represented TSU President Dr. Arnold E. Velasco in the ceremonial MOA signing alongside Ms. Angelica Tabamo, lead author, from the Center for Natural Products Research.
This partnership indicates a shared commitment to promoting sustainable development and emphasizes the importance of academic-government collaboration in solving environmental issues.
Representatives from PENRO expressed delight in the collaboration, stating that partnering with TSU would improve their ability to implement successful environmental programs and regulations.
The collaboration is expected to provide significant research findings to elevate the province's environmental management methods.
The environmental study also involves Mr. Jaidriel Meg Cabanding from OURD and Prof. Claire Lagrana from the College of Science as the other team members.
Also present during the MOA signing were DENR-III Regional Director Ralph C. Pablo and Provincial Director Celia D. Esteban, who represented the PENRO. (jlmm-OPA)
