Tarlac State University and the Department of Education-Schools Division Office of Tarlac Province (SDOTP) formally sealed their first partnership through a ceremonial memorandum of agreement signing on June 4, 2024, at the SGOD Conference Room of DepEd Tarlac Province.
Titled Project DISIPLINADO, the College of Business and Accountancy, with the assistance of the Office of Gender and Development, is set to extend services to the DepEd SDOTP for knowledge sharing and capacity building.
Vice President for Research Development and Extension Dr. Murphy P. Mohammed, representing TSU President Dr. Arnold E. Velasco, highlighted the importance of collaboration and cooperation to achieve the project's success.
“We have our resources; you also have your resources. We have our limitations; you also have your limitations. But us working together, we can make great things, and we can create an impact [on] the community,” VP Mohammed said.
The project’s initial phase is composed of financial literacy seminars and training intended for the division officers, education leaders, DepEd teachers, non-teaching personnel, and senior high school students enrolled under the Accountancy and Business Management strand.
SDOTP Superintendent Dr. Ronnie S. Mallari, represented by Assistant Superintendent Dr. Danilo M. Jacoba, emphasized the timeliness and relevance of the financial literacy programs to its benefactors, especially the teachers.
“Kami po ay natutuwa dahil ito ay napapanahon. Kinakailangan nating turuan at tulungan ang ating mga guro para mas mapaganda ang pagma-manage ng kanilang financial resources pati na rin po ang ating iba pang mga kasamahan. Sana po ay magtuloy-tuloy ito at marami pa tayong matulungan sa SDOTP,” Dr. Jacoba said.
Meanwhile, CBA Associate Dean Dr. Henry D. Rufino assured that the college will not limit the sharing of resources to teachers but will also cater to other SDOTP personnel and SHS students.
“Through this project, hindi na lang po tayo magiging matatag, mas lalong pa po tayong magiging disiplinado,” Dr. Rufino stated, linking it to DepEd’s “Matatag” curriculum.
Moreover, CBA Dean Dr. Jhonel C. Panlilio, represented by MBA/DBA Chairperson Dr. Elizabeth Amurao, shared her vision of the project, underscoring its positive implications for the partners.
“At the end of this journey, we would like to envision a strong core of DepEd faculty and non-teaching personnel who are financially literate who will mold our young citizens towards a healthy state of financial well-being,” she said.
According to CBA Extension Chairperson Prof. Christine Janelle Santiago, the project's second phase will consist of mentorship programs for ABM senior high school students to capacitate them with the skills and knowledge in crafting business-related outputs, such as feasibility studies and business plans.
Dr. Joel S. Guileb, School Governance and Operations Division Chief Education Supervisor, thanked TSU for considering their proposal to include mentorship programs in the project.
