Tarlac State University now has seven new professional food technologists (PFT), who are among the first batch of passers of the August 2023 Food Technologists Licensure Examination, as announced by the Professional Regulation Commission this afternoon (August 16).
The FTLE held last August 10-11 is the first board examination for the food technology program since the establishment of the Philippine Regulatory Board of Food Technology (PRB FT) in July 2021.
TSU recorded a 33.33% passing rate for its first-time takers, which is also the posted passing percentage as an institution.
Moreover, BS Food Technology chairperson Ms. Mary Katherine Apolonio, BS Nutrition and Food Technology graduate (2005), and Mr. Xyris Gerard Fernandez were granted the PFT license without taking the boards per section 20 of Republic Act 11052 or the Philippine Food Technology Act.
The law indicates that qualified applicants who are holders of a bachelor's degree in food technology or other allied programs and have been actively practicing the profession for at least five years are granted this privilege to apply for registration without taking the prescribed licensure examination.
TSU alumnus Ms. Archie Franco from BS NFT batch 2006 also received the same privilege.
Meanwhile, Ms. Kristine Mae Ipan, Mr. Jhan Ervin Marcelo, and Ms. Christine Louanne Alturas, faculty members of the university's food technology program passed the board exams.
Other passers from the Center for Food Technology and Research are Mr. Bill Henry Ramiterre, Ms. Kyla Mae Candiente, Ms. Tehillah Louise Samson, and Ms. Abegail Feliciano.
The August 2023 FTLE national passing rate is 39.98%.
