Tarlac State University was chosen to be the organizer of the regional webinar for the 2022 National Women’s Month Celebration (NWMC) under the leadership of the Central Luzon Regional Development Council’s Regional Gender and Development Committee (RDC III – RGADC) held on Thursday morning (March 24, 2022) via Zoom and Facebook Live.
Highlighting the theme of the 2022 NWMC “We Make Change Work for Women: Agenda ng Kababaihan Tungo sa Kaunlaran,” the webinar focused on women empowerment aimed at providing opportunities to establish an integrated scheme which ensures the wholistic attainment of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and raises awareness on calibrating women’s work.
In her opening message, TSU President Dr. Myrna Q. Mallari shared that she is glad to have been given a chance to be a part of this event.
“Our theme says that ‘we make change for women.’ The ‘we’ there does not refer to women only. It refers to all of us – men and women. So, we do things in order to sustain the empowerment and engagement of women in our society... And that change will be for the betterment not only of women but of our society,” Pres. Mallari said.
Moreover, CHEDRO III (Commission on Higher Education Regional Office III) Chief Education Program Specialist Ms. Lora L. Yusi said in her inspirational message that real women empowerment is seeing, hearing, believing, and recognizing the role of women and men in national development.
The invited guest speaker for the webinar is Dr. Joyce Mandejar Dy of the Philippine Commission on Women who talked about “A Call for Empowerment of Women in Development.”
She shared her expertise and experience in promoting women empowerment focusing on two important sources of information about women: 1) the nature of man and the nature specifically of a woman from a creationist perspective; and 2) the neurophysiological realities and facts about a women’s brain which are inevitable and persistent changes.
“For a woman to be empowered, she has the role of what makes up her well-being and she has to work at it. Creative, coping, social, essential, and physical self will live to an empowered woman, and it will be unique for each woman. An empowered woman values her self-worth, self-respect, and integrity,” Dr. Dy said.
This is followed by a Q&A forum, to which the Dr. Mandejar Dy entertained questions from the participants coming from different agencies in Region III. The session concluded with a message from the Regional Director of Philippine Information Agency (PIA) III and Co-Chairperson of the RGADC III, Dir. William L. Beltran.
