Tarlac State University was recognized by the Commission on Higher Education for its recent milestone on the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings during the ASEAN ICONS Awards Night held today, August 26, at the Hilton Manila in Pasay.
TSU President Dr. Arnold E. Velasco received the award on behalf of the university.
Last April 27, 2022, TSU was included among the world's 1,046 higher education institutions (HEIs) and 15 Philippine HEIs to qualify in the THE Impact Rankings.
In the application process in 2021, during the presidency of Dr. Myrna Q. Mallari, the university identified four Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as its strengths with the mandatory SDG 17 or Partnerships for the Goals.
Of the five SDGs, the university ranked highest in SDG 11 with 38.9-53.3 points. This allowed TSU to be part of the 401-600 rank out of the 783 institutions in the category.
This is one of the many internationalization efforts entered into by TSU to advance quality higher education and boost international presence.
Aside from THE Impact Rankings, other HEIs were recognized based on their internationalization accomplishments on Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) and World's Universities with Real Impact (WURI), among others.
The ASEAN ICONS Awards, organized by the CHED International Affairs Service, is an avenue to recognize HEIs that championed the global reputation of Philippine Higher Education through commendable performance in recognized international rankings and ratings.
This event is one of the highlights of the Commission's ASEAN month celebration.
After the awarding ceremonies, a networking function and gala dinner will be held to allow HEIs to foster strategic partnerships and collaborations.
TSU was also represented by Dr. Jasper Jay N. Mendoza, International Affairs and Linkages Office Director and College of Teacher Education Dean.
