The College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) was established on November 21, 2000, by virtue of Board Resolution No. 64, s. 2000. It continues to render service to 8 other colleges in the University by taking care of the provision of the General Education (GE) courses, the basic social sciences, and other foundation courses for professional training.

Its two major responsibilities are: (1) taking care of GE courses required to every undergraduate student at TSU regardless of his/her area of specialization, including, courses designed to broaden his/her understanding of man, art, literature, and history; his/her political, social, economic systems and its relationship to the environment; and (2) providing for its own undergraduate curricular offerings, which are: Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Bachelor of Arts in Communication, and Bachelor of Arts in English Language Studies. The Bachelor of Science in Criminology, established in 2011 by virtue of the Board Resolution No. 37, s. 2011 dated May 19, 2011, and first offered during the academic year 2012-2013, was once part of the college before the establishment of its own college. The most recent addition to its curricular offerings is the Master of Arts in English Language (MAEL), established by virtue of Board Resolution No. 101, s. 2014, with Certificate of Program Compliance (COPC) No. 118, s. 2020 which was certified on November 24, 2020.

The College also provides adequate opportunities for both teachers and students to conduct research and a considerable number of humanities and science courses in their chosen field; where such available opportunities for research and student interaction with teachers of varied trainings and persuasion, undergraduate degree programs in the CASS differ substantially from the curricula in other fields.

Besides instruction, research, creative scholarship, community outreach and extension programs, as well as public service activities, the College is also responsible for providing a wider space for the discovery, dissemination, and proper application of knowledge for the enrichment of human experience. These university-wide functions and responsibilities of CASS since its establishment have increased in scope, proportionate to the growth in the enrolment and size of the units and colleges served.

Goal

The College of Arts and Social Sciences aims to produce well-rounded individuals who are well-equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills in the humanities and social sciences and competent in their field of specialization so that they will become globally competitive professionals and leaders and productive citizens of the country.

1. To function as a service college in the pursuit of academic excellence through the offering of quality general education courses in the humanities and social sciences;
2. To produce world-class graduates of the academic programs in psychology, communication, and English language;
3. To nurture among faculty and students the culture of research in their field of specialization; and
4. To strengthen partnerships and linkages with local and international governments and non-government organizations for community development
